FAQs

Remodeling a kitchen is a fairly extensive process—but how long does the whole process take?
Well, the answer isn’t as simple as a number of days or weeks, as it varies depending on a few different variables. For example, if the remodel is a complete overhaul of the kitchen, it’s going to take longer than if you’re installing new flooring or fresh cabinetry.

If you were to break it down to a general range, you would find a typical kitchen remodeling project to take 3 to 9 weeks. Granted, this can be expedited with a clear plan, budget, and the right team to handle your kitchen renovation. Our kitchen renovation team at Gabinetto Kitchen & Bath, regularly finishes projects within 1 to 3 weeks!

In extreme cases where the plan is not as clear and the scope of work is large, these projects can take 4 to 5 months to complete. But, this can be easily avoided with some proper planning and a quality team.
While this might sound a bit daunting, it’s important you remember you’ll get a beautiful new kitchen that is both well designed and more functional than ever before.
There are many stages to the remodeling process, each just as important as the last.
Our team will be with you through every single step, keeping you in the loop on the progress we make every day.

The basic stages of your renovation will look something like this:
  • Demolition: We’ll start by getting rid of all the things that won’t be in your new space. This includes removing old cabinetry, walls, sinks, and appliances.
  • Plumbing: If we need to, we will replace the old plumbing in your kitchen, ensuring it’s ready to handle all the new features.
  • Electrical: We’ll update all electrical components and replace any old lighting fixtures you no longer want.
  • Drywall: Our professional team will install new drywall.
  • Paint: We’ll paint the new drywall and existing walls the exact color of your choice.
  • Flooring: We’ll add all the new flooring and baseboards.
  • Cabinetry: All new cabinetry will be delivered and installed.
  • Countertops: The countertops will be installed on top of the new cabinetry.
  • Backsplash: If you have chosen to add a backsplash, we will install it under the cabinets and around your sink and stove.
  • Appliances: Lastly, all the new appliances will be installed, and any final hardware will be added to cabinetry.
A building or construction permit is an approval issued by the city or government agency having jurisdiction over a parcel of land. Building permits provide applicants with the legal authority to complete construction work.

Types of Building Permits:
  • Building permit: A building permit is required to build a new structure, make changes, repairs, and/or demolish a building. Some projects may not need a permit but may require a Zoning Improvement Permit.
  • Trade permit: These permits can be a stand-alone permit or in combination with a master building permit. Trade includes but is not limited to roofing, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits.
  • Plumbing permit: A plumbing permit usually pertains to bathroom or kitchen piping such as sinks, toilets, drains, or back-flow devices. For example, a hotel upgrading their piping systems will need to obtain a plumbing permit.
  • Mechanical permit: A mechanical permit is required before doing any mechanical work, such as heating, ducting, or cooling. For example, if you want to replace your air conditioner or do some duct work, you'll need to get a mechanic's permit.
  • Electrical permit: An electrical permit encompasses any electrical work on a building or structure such as installing electrical wiring, transformers, or lighting. For example, a new retail store looking to install a lighting system will need to receive an electric permit.
Requires a permit:
  • Wall demo or changing layout
  • Changing roofline
  • Installing new electrical wiring
  • Adding decks and fences
  • Anything to do with sewer
  • Building an addition or garage

May not need a permit:
  • Replacing countertops or appliances
  • Updating kitchen and bath fixtures
  • Laying roof with similar material
  • Installing new flooring
  • Building shed or workshop
