European kitchen cabinets

We’ll start with the European cabinets. This style of cabinet generally has no frame; that is, the door is the entire front.

This has its advantages: they are a more modern style and, apparently, they are less annoying due to their simplicity. Not having frames provides an aspect of continuity between them. Since kitchens in European homes tend to be smaller than American kitchens, joining frameless cabinets makes the space functional and efficient.

American kitchen cabinets

In contrast, unlike European kitchen cabinets, the cabinets used in American homes have a style known as “Face Frame”: they are made of thick wood, which distinguishes and separates the door from the rest of the cabinet. As the doors are smaller, the cabinets are visually smaller and less stylized. However, they tend to have more depth, which makes them more convenient to stock.

Moreover, Americans have dedicated cabinets for appliances in their kitchens. They are made in sizes and shapes able to contain, for example, the microwave or blender, because, having frames, they tend to be more resilient.

Handles

European cabinets do not have handles. Surprisingly, these open from the bottom or top of the door itself. This also contributes to the continuity effect, stylises the space and makes the kitchen more aesthetically pleasing.

Unlike the previous ones, American kitchen cabinets do have handles on the doors. They can be simple or complex pieces of different colors and designs.

Colors that are commonly used

The colors used in the European style are generally the colors of the minimalist style: white or light gray. Anyway, you can also find more elegant and classic styles, with dark green, French blue, or even Mediterranean styles.

Instead, the representative color range of American cabinets is usually yellow or classic varnished wood, which makes them look bright and combined with brown marble.
